PROJECT / 10 FEATURE ARTICLE
SonicLink
A local browser-to-AI Passport link for transferring small structured payloads over audio without pairing or cloud transport.
01 Project overview
Move small data through sound
Sonic Link transfers small structured payloads between a browser and the AI Passport over audio.
Payload preparation and decoding run locally in the browser. The transfer path needs no pairing, account, or cloud transport.
Physical acoustic acceptance remains incomplete and has not been verified.
02 Transfer path
From payload bytes to sound and back
- 01Payload
- 02Validation
- 0340-byte framing
- 04Acoustic encoding
- 05Speaker / microphone
- 06Local decode
- 07Reassembly
- 08Validated payload
03 Interactive demo

04 Browser runtime
Keep capture and decoding off the UI thread
- TX
- Payload preparation → Sonic Core WASM → ggwave WASM → Web Audio output
- RX
- Microphone → AudioWorklet → Decode Worker → ggwave → Sonic Core reassembly
05 Implementation
Bounded payloads, real playback progress, local decoding
TEXT, URL, and TOKEN payloads are limited to 93 bytes and divided into 40-byte frames. TEXT normalization and URL validation happen before transmission; TOKEN carries binary bytes.
Transmit progress advances after actual audio playback completes. A completed transmission confirms audio output only; it does not confirm reception.
The browser requests microphone access only after an explicit user action. AudioWorklet capture feeds a decode Worker for ggwave decoding and Sonic Core reassembly; normal receive audio is not retained.
Physical acoustic acceptance with the AI Passport remains incomplete and unverified.
